Best Pal Stakes, a six-furlong race, that drew only five runners. The race to winner’s circle appears to be between Instagrand and Owning.

Instagrand broke his maiden by 10 lengths on June 29 at Los Alamitos. Instagrand should be the speed in this race. He was purchased for $1.2 million by Larry Best’s OXO Equine. This will be his second start.

Owning won on debut on July 8 at Los Alamitos going 5 1/2 furlongs.

Sparky Ville beat maidens in his second start June 9 at Santa Anita, improving on a debut in which he broke poorly. He has raced only twice.

Mason Dixon in his first start rallied to beat an allowance-type maiden field at Del Mar on July 21.

Synthesis is still winless after three starts but was third behind Sparky Ville in his second start on June 9 and most recently finishing fourth at Del Mar on July 21.

The Best Pal Stakes will be the second start for Instagrand, Owning and Mason Dixon.
